Acts 3:1-10
Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. 3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money. 4Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" 5So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
6Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk." 7Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong. 8He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. 9When all the people saw him walking and praising God, 10they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
Over the last few months the Lord has been causing this scripture and idea to come alive in me. That idea is "look at us." Mainly what I am getting from this can be applied to any area of ministry or any area of life for that matter. What I love about this historical account is the confidence that Peter and John walked in. They were disciples that knew the Savior and were confident in that fact that they had been given power by Jesus to lay hands on the sick and that they would recover.
As God's children we have all been given abilities, giftings and authority to reign in life with Him. We are MORE than conquerers through Him. And with the grace that we have been given it is so vital to step into and be confident in what the Lord has created us to do. Some of us are worship leaders, doctors, mechanics, teachers, mothers, fathers, etc. and have been given specific gifts and abilities to function in that calling.
It seems like today more than ever we need to be confident in what God has called us to do. If we are worship leaders, we should expect the presence to show up when we lead worship. If some of us are mechanics, we should expect Godly wisdom to help us get that engine running that way it should. If we are parents we should expect the Holy Spirit to lead us and guide us in bringing up our children the right way.
It's kind of like baseball, when an opportunity, problem etc. comes to us,it's like a pitcher throwing a fastball, we should step up to the plate, square our shoulders, center our feet and swing for the fences! A lot of people are bunting instead with thoughts and words like, "it's just a hobby", "I'm not very good at it", or "it's something I do on the side". If we know that the Lord has gifted us in an area or called us to do it, we must not play around with it or take it lightly. People are counting on you to be the best worship leader, singer, musician, mechanic, mother, father you can be. So be confident not arrogant and know that you have a gifting to do what you were created to do and swing for the fences!
