By now hopefully you know what
Twitter is. Now here are a few reasons why a church should get on Twitter:
1. It’s free marketing! In these tough economic times, churches are in need of inexpensive ways to get the word out about what they’re doing.
2. It’s easy! Most pastors are not that tech saavy. Twitter is very simple and easy to use. (If you need someone to teach you, contact me.)
3. It’s a way to communicate important news. You can tweet about upcoming events, important last minute changes, and any other updates.
4. It’s a free way to send text messages. Twitter users can opt-in to receive your tweets as text messages on their phone. If they do, whenever you tweet they will receive it in a text straight to their mobile phone.
5.It’s a great way to share the gospel. You can tweet the gospel. Throughout the week you can tweet scripture, mini 140 character sermons, and encouragement. Not only will your congregation benefit from these, but who knows, someone who does not know Christ may stumble upon it.
6. It can embed to your website. You can actually embed your tweets on your church website if you’d like by using a simple widget.
7. It’s a way to meet new people. Twitter is a tool that can be used to meet new people and network with other churches.
8. It can be used to share prayer requests and praises.
9. You can see what your church folks are up to during the week. Twitter is not just a one-way communication tool. You get to see what others are up to and comment on them.
10. You can share pics and links. It’s a very fast and easy way to share pics of church events or links to interesting articles.
Of course, it’s important to note that it is not enough to just have a Twitter account. You need to have followers who will actually receive your tweets.
Also, a great time saver tool for Twitter is
TweetLater. It allows you to schedule tweets in advance.
Do you use Twitter? Why or why not?
